- Mission: The mission of Austin Area Art From the Streets is to provide a safe and encouraging environment in which the positive spirit of homeless people is nurtured through artistic expression, and to provide them with a source of pride and income through the sale of their work.
- Details: For more than 20 years Art From the Streets volunteers have conducted twice weekly open studio art classes for people who are homeless or formerly homeless. Art created during the year is displayed and offered for sale to the public at the Annual Show and Sale of Art by People Who Are Homeless held in conjunction with National Homeless Awareness Week each year in November or December. The annual show is produced by the volunteer board of Art From the Streets, staffed by volunteers, and publicized by teams of volunteer PR professionals. As of 2012 the annual shows have produced more than $800,000 in art sales, with the proceeds going to the homeless artists who created the work. In April 2013 Art From the Streets was awarded its 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Plans are under way for our 21st Annual Show at the Austin Convention Center, November 9 & 10, 2013.
